RPC is congratulated by Dominion Power

July 10th, 2008

(Surry, VA) – Local commercial contracting firm, RPC Industries, Inc., was thanked by the fine people at the Surry Nuclear Power Station for a job well done.  The project, which included the installation of blast panels and repairs to the buildings siding and window system near energized high voltage power lines, was completed accident free in a dangerous working environment thanks to our truly professional team.  Dale Blake, Supervisor of Construction Engineering for Dominion writes:

Dear [RPC Industries, Inc.],

I just wanted to take a moment to say thanks to you, your staff, and subcontractors for the job well done on our Surry Power Station Turbine Building siding Replacement Project.

Your staff and subcontractors were true professionals and completed the work in a quality manner within the scheduled project duration.  In fact, the outage duration was significantly shortened which required they complete the work in shorter time frame than originally planned.  They worked through inclement weather conditions and continued progress on the task daily.  They accomplished the work in a professional manner and restored the integrity of our turbine building to the standards that we provided.

You also completed the work with no injuries or accidents.

Please convey my sincere appreciation to all of your staff for the outstanding support of our project.

Sincerely, Dale Blake

RPC Industries, Inc. is dedicated to quality workmanship second only to safety.  This project challenged both of our core values in ways unlike other projects and we are very proud of this success.

RPC continues its Commitment to Habitat for Humanity

May 2nd, 2008

(Suffolk, VA) Habitat for Humanity of South Hampton Roads  held the country’s largest Builders' Blitz!  With the support of countless volunteers, hundreds of contracting firms, and 15 very special General Contractors, Habitat built 16 new houses in ONLY 5 DAYS!  Just think of ABC's Extreme Makeover Home Edition only multiply the touching stories and daunting construction build times 16.

RPC Industries, Inc. in conjunction with Bayer BaySystems NA applied closed cell foam at the home of Teionna White and her four-year-old son, Tayveon.  This superior insulation will drastically reduce air infiltration and increase the efficiency of the home.  All 16 homes will be EarthCraft certified and the home we helped build is currently under review for LEED certification!  Through many donations which are above and beyond conventional home building systems, the White family will enjoy an amazing gift of a home that will give back to them for the rest of their time there.

The builder on the project is Whitney Construction.... Although this company is young, only being formed in 2007, they have carved a niche in high- residential renovations. With market demand insisting on sustainable design, Whitney construction has teamed up with 2D Innovations (see below) to become the leader in sustainable design and construction in Hampton Roads.  2D Innovations is also a newly formed venture formed by the very well known local green building expert, John Dunn, formerly of Mosley Architects. If you have seen a green build or a LEED certified project in our area, you can bet John Dunn had something to do with it.   More can be found about both these companies at:    www.2dinnovations.com    www.whitneyhomerenovations.com

National Industry Excellence Award for Scope Arena

January 25, 2007

(RPC Industries, Inc.  Hampton, VA) – Local commercial roofing firm, RPC Industries, Inc., was awarded a National Industry excellence award at the Spray Polyurethane Foam Alliance annual conference held in Orlando, FL.  The award was presented for the firm’s restoration of a local landmark, Scope Arena in Norfolk, VA.  A story about the Scope project and the history of the building is also being featured in Spray Foam Magazine.

The Scope project was awarded alongside its “bigger brother,” the Superdome, in New Orleans, Louisiana.  These high-profile projects are drawing national attention as spray polyurethane foam proves itself as the best protection a building can have from the onslaught of storms that have pounded the east coast in recent years.

The Norfolk Scope was designed by renowned Italian architect/engineer Pier Luigi Nervi and constructed in 1968. The design of the Norfolk Scope is similar to Nervi's Palazzetto dello Sport, built in 1958 for the Olympics in Rome.  The building, measuring 440-feet in diameter and 110-feet tall, underwent Audio/Visual renovations in 2006.  That renovation included hanging a rigging grid by bolting through the concrete roof deck.  RPC Industries, Inc. patched the foam roof after the bolts were installed and then renovated the entire roof.

A foam roof system has been continuously protecting Scope Arena for almost 40 years and was just warranted for another ten years. Not only will SPF be the roof system over Scope for over half a century at a minimum, it has done so without a single leak.  So, go out and enjoy the Admirals play or the next big concert.  The men and women of RPC Industries, Inc. will be there enjoying the show and their excellent work will be overhead protecting everyone from the elements.
